Alex Stone is an artist, author, inventor, marketing manager, poet, sailor, sculptor and short story and feature writer based on Te Motu Ara-i-Roa Waiheke Island, twelve nautical miles into the morning sun from Auckland city in New Zealand. For his creative writing he has either won, been runner-up or shortlisted in ten New Zealand literary awards and one international award for memoir. His books include Taken, a novel written in first-person elephant; Dreams & Dust, a unique history of the 58 short-lived republics of South Africa; Lode, 20 years of poems and pictures; and Umkhapalanga – the Song of a Son, a dual-voice philosophical memoir that reads as an extended essay on diaspora.
