The 2024 Katherine Mansfield Sparkling Prose competition opens June 1

This year, we introduce a competition for stories up to 1888 words – a reference to the year of Mansfield’s birth. We also introduce a theme. Work submitted must follow the theme ‘haunted’ – whether a direct reference to the word and concept, or loosely connected. Submissions need not be directly related to Katherine Mansfield. We encourage experimentation and outside-the-box thinking!

The competition runs June 01 – July 31. Winners will be announced at a gathering at the Katherine Mansfield House in Wellington on October 13.

Judges for the 2024 competition are Michelle Elvy and Harry Ricketts. Prizes for this competition are generously donated by Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature.

See the KM Sparkling Prose page for more about the 2024 timeline, prizes, judges, competition rules and how to enter.
